This device is used for setting the mag maximum spark advance by buzzing when the magneto breaker points open (LED lights also indicate if the points are open or closed). An ohmmeter won't work for this procedure because the meter current simply goes to ground through the coil. You cannot set the critically important maximum advance without a device such as this.
